Northern Lights are caused by collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun and atoms in the Earth’s atmosphere.
Red auroras are comparatively less frequent and are usually associated with intense solar activity. At this height, oxygen is less concentrated and is excited at a higher frequency or wavelength, making reds visible. Red auroras are often seen at the higher edges of the display. Here in Texas this is exactly what we got.
Some even believe that the Northern Lights are a sign of good fortune or a herald of positive change. We like to focus on the positive.
